2027: Makinde best man to defeat Tinubu — APM

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has endorsed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the leading candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This endorsement comes ahead of a meeting of the G-100, a political pressure group pushing for a unified opposition candidate to take on Tinubu. APM’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, urged other opposition aspirants to prioritize national interests over personal ambitions and support Makinde, who he considers the strongest contender to defeat the incumbent.

Yusuf highlighted Makinde's popularity, especially among young professionals, and his practical approach to addressing security, economic, and infrastructure issues as key advantages. He also emphasized that Makinde's Southwestern origins align with the sentiment that the South should replace Tinubu to complete the remaining four-year term, potentially paving the way for a Northward shift in power.

However, the APM spokesman noted that the endorsement is not solely based on regional rotation considerations, dismissing suggestions that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi's reluctance to endorse a single candidate is solely due to regional concerns or their individual ambitions. Yusuf appealed to all opposition stakeholders to set aside personal interests and unite behind Makinde, whom he believes is best positioned to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election.
