2027: Makinde best man to dislodge Tinubu – APM

The opposition Allied People’s Movement (APM) has endorsed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a potential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This endorsement comes ahead of a scheduled meeting by the G-100, a political pressure group promoting the formation of a unified opposition candidate to rival Tinubu.

APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf called on other opposition presidential candidates to prioritize national interests over personal ambitions and support Makinde, whom the APM described as the strongest candidate to defeat the incumbent. Yusuf stated that consultations among opposition parties were progressing well, with the goal of building a formidable political platform against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He emphasized that the desire for an alternative to the current administration should take precedence over regional concerns, such as the argument that the South should produce Tinubu’s successor in 2027. Makinde's popularity, particularly among young people, professionals, and other sections of the electorate, was highlighted as a factor in his favor according to the APM's endorsement.
