Tinubu flags off reconstruction of Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, approves Abeokuta–Ibadan dualisation

President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road that connects Oyo and Ogun states. The ceremony took place at the Legacy Estate open field in Ibadan, where Tinubu, represented by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, underscored the significance of the project for the South-west region's economic integration and infrastructure development.

The Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode corridor serves as a vital economic artery, linking key cities and facilitating trade within the region. Tinubu emphasized that the project is part of the federal government's broader effort to strengthen transportation networks, spur economic growth, and address critical infrastructure gaps across the South-west. He highlighted that improved road infrastructure is expected to boost commerce, reduce transportation costs, and create employment opportunities for various sectors of the economy.

Tinubu also announced the approval for the reconstruction and dualisation of the Abeokuta–Ibadan Road, a 70-kilometre crucial link between two major cities. The procurement process for this project is already underway, and the minister of Works, Mr. Dave Umahi, stated that Oyo State currently has 17 major road projects among the 47 federal government initiatives being executed in the South-west.

The minister also mentioned the ongoing dualisation of a 56-kilometre stretch of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway in Ogun and Ondo states.

The president stressed that the flag-off ceremony marked a decisive action against infrastructure deficits, affirming that no critical infrastructure projects would be neglected. He stressed that the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road's completion would enhance mobility, improve commerce, and create new opportunities for the population, particularly farmers, traders, and manufacturers. Tinubu also appealed to the local communities to cooperate fully with the implementing agencies to ensure the project's timely completion.
