Prince Harry steps down from scandal-mired African charity’s board

Prince Harry has resigned from the board of the African conservation charity African Parks, which has been embroiled in controversy over alleged rights abuses by its rangers, according to a statement from his spokesman. The royal announced his decision on Monday, just days after he and his family were set to relocate from the United States back to the UK.

African Parks acknowledged in May 2025 that rangers at a national park in the Republic of Congo had been involved in serious rights abuses, including rape and torture against indigenous people. Despite this, Harry expressed pride in his ten years of service with the charity and affirmed his ongoing support for its mission. The charity stated that Harry and the board mutually agreed that it was time for him to step down after ten years of service, as part of a regular governance refresh.

Harry was not removed from the board, the charity added. Harry's departure coincides with his expected move back to the UK, following his family's relocation to California in 2020.
