Murkomen announces major reforms to modernise Kenya Prisons Service

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the ongoing security sector reforms will be accelerated to enhance service delivery to the public. He emphasized that strengthened training, modernization of infrastructure, and improved welfare for officers would lead to better services. At the pass-out parade of Kenya Prisons Service cadets, Murkomen joined Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to witness the graduation of 36 cadets after 13 months of intensive training in multiple locations.

The ceremony also marked the commissioning of a 150-bed hospital and the distribution of 41 vehicles to correctional facilities. Murkomen stated that the reforms aim to transform the Kenya Prisons Service into a modern correctional institution focused on secure custody, rehabilitation, technology, skills development, and successful reintegration into society, adapting to the evolving security landscape.
