The 2026/27 Ligue 1 season is upon us, and the gap between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the rest of the league appears wider than ever. With financial distress plaguing French football and France being home to the world's best talent, clubs are left scrambling to retain their players. The revolving door of managers at 12 of the 18 clubs highlights the uncertainty and instability in the league. While there are some exciting changes on the horizon, such as the appointment of Davide Ancelotti at Lille and Filipe Luís at Monaco, the overall tone of the season is one of familiarity – the looming success of PSG and the emergence of a new generation of stars.

Fans can expect excitement and tension, but perhaps not the thrilling title race they had hoped for.
