As the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season approaches, the gap between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the rest of the competition has never been more pronounced. Earlier this year, PSG clinched their first-ever Champions League title, which has only bolstered their reputation as the pinnacle of French football. The likes of Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche, and Mika Godts are seen as upgrades to the current squad, with players such as Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in, and Randal Kolo Muani expected to be replaced.

Other clubs have struggled to maintain their performance levels. Monaco, facing DNCG restrictions, has been forced to sell several of its top players, including Maghnes Akliouche, Folarin Balogun, and Lamine Camara.

Rennes is the only team that has bucked the trend of player drain, but they now face the challenge of competing in European football for the first time in three seasons. With 12 out of 18 clubs changing managers in the off-season, the atmosphere in Ligue 1 is a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Exciting appointments like Davide Ancelotti at Lille and Filipe Luís at Monaco hint at potential improvements, while the departure of talented players and managers indicates a challenging year ahead.

Nonetheless, French football continues to attract fresh faces and promising managers, ensuring that the season remains an eventful one.
