Egyptian Ambassador commends Ghana Armwrestling, calls for collaborative development

Egyptian Ambassador Wael Fathy Ahmed has lauded the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their work in developing armwrestling in Ghana. He called for deeper collaboration between Ghana and Egypt to expand armwrestling, sports tourism, and overall sports development throughout Africa. This conversation occurred at the Egyptian embassy as the Ghana Federation discussed ways to strengthen ties with Egypt, focusing on armwrestling, its inclusion in the 2027 African Games, athlete and coach exchanges, sports business, and tourism.

The ambassador praised Ghana's accomplishments in armwrestling and highlighted sport as a potent means of enhancing relations, particularly via youth engagement and personal connections.

He suggested that both nations should expand their cooperation beyond competition, tapping into the various commercial and tourism prospects that arise from sports. A major topic of discussion was the inclusion of armwrestling in the 2027 African Games hosted in Egypt. The Ghana delegation highlighted the sport's potential to contribute significantly to the host nation's medal tally, citing its strong performance at the prior African Games hosted by Ghana and the sport's potential to bolster Egypt's prospects in its home country.

The president of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey Br, stated that the meeting offered a chance to establish a strategic partnership between Ghana and Egypt in armwrestling and broader sports development. He envisioned a partnership extending to technical development, athlete exchanges, business ventures, tourism, and sports diplomacy, emphasizing the shared potential to propel Africa's armwrestling and sports forward.

The meeting also examined possibilities to connect the business communities of Ghana and Egypt via sports, encompassing sponsorship, sports marketing, event organization, and investment. Additionally, it sought to leverage major armwrestling tournaments and training camps to promote sports tourism, hospitality, and cultural exchanges.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation is optimistic that this engagement will lay the groundwork for ongoing Ghana-Egypt cooperation in armwrestling, sports development, commerce, and tourism, while enhancing sports diplomacy and fostering the sport's growth across Africa.
