Sarawak state election will be held ‘very soon’ says PBB official

A senior official from the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has announced that the Sarawak state election will be held "very soon." Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, the women's wing leader for PBB's central zone, stated that the polls could be conducted next month or at any time in the near future, as reported by the Borneo Post.

She emphasized the need for all members to be prepared and urged women's wings at the branch level to commence refresher sessions on election procedures, including campaign guidelines and activities. Additionally, she advised branch leaders to obtain the latest electoral rolls and familiarize themselves with the voter demographics in their areas, stating that having this information will facilitate efficient vote control and mobilization efforts.

This announcement comes after Dr. Sim Kui Hian, the vice-chairman of Sarawak's ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak, predicted an early election two months ago, suggesting that the polls would occur before the end of the year. However, Sarawak's premier, Abang Johari Openg, has not yet disclosed a definitive timeline. The current term of the Sarawak state assembly ends in February, and an election must be held within 60 days of a dissolution, with the latest possible date being April.
