Sarawak state election will be held ‘very soon’ says PBB official

A Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu official has stated that the upcoming Sarawak state election will occur "very soon," prompting branch members to intensify their preparations. Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, leader of the PBB central zone women's wing, indicated that the polls could take place "next month" but stressed that it will happen "very soon."

She urged women's wings at the branch level to commence refresher sessions on election procedures and campaign guidelines, while also urging leaders to acquire the most recent electoral rolls and familiarize themselves with the voter demographics in their respective areas. She emphasized the importance of knowing the number of voters, the gender distribution, and other demographic details to facilitate their vote-control and mobilization efforts.

This call for readiness follows a prediction made by Dr. Sim Kui Hian, vice-chairman of Sarawak's ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak, who suggested that the election would occur before the latter half of the year, stating that "we are fighting the war less than 100 days from now." However, Sarawak's premier, Abang Johari Openg, has not provided a definitive timeline for the election.

The state assembly's term ends in February, unless it is dissolved earlier, and an election must be held within 60 days of dissolution, or by April at the latest.
