Rahul Gandhi rejects Manusmriti's view on women

Pune: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dismissed the Manusmriti's stance on women, asserting that women are their own individuals and not the property of their fathers, husbands, or sons. At his party's youth outreach program, Gandhi emphasized that India's strength lies in the 70 crore unique journeys, imagination, and dreams of its women.

He quoted the Manusmriti passage that dictated women's submission to male relatives at every stage of life, calling it shameful. Gandhi stressed that women should stand on their own two feet and recognize their own worth, emphasizing that they have relationships with their male relatives but do not belong to them. He urged the audience to break free from societal constraints and embrace their individuality, highlighting women's sensitivity, gentleness, compassion, and forward-thinking nature as reasons for their greater value to the nation.
