France to deliver interceptor missiles to Ukraine after new Russian strikes

PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that Paris would deliver new interceptor missiles to Ukraine, as Kyiv's air defenses run low following the latest wave of intense Russian assaults. In a telephone conversation, Macron informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the enhanced support, including the delivery of interceptors and ongoing collaboration.

Their discussion took place prior to a planned meeting on Monday of Ukraine's allies in the Coalition of the Willing, a France and Britain-led initiative to intensify pressure on Moscow to cease its invasion. Zelensky confirmed during the call that the urgent need for air defense was a primary concern, and he pledged to expedite the delivery of the latest French equipment and missiles.

The Coalition of the Willing's meeting, which coincides with Ukraine's Independence Day, will be co-chaired by Macron, joining virtually alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the new British Prime Minister, Andrew Burnham. Approximately ten leaders, including European Council chief Antonio Costa, are scheduled to attend the coalition meeting in Kyiv, according to an EU official.
