Ukraine's Defense Ministry unveils first domestic jet-powered drone interceptor Alexa Spatium

On August 21, Ukraine's Defense Ministry announced the addition of Alexa Spatium, their first domestically produced jet-powered drone interceptor, to the nation's defense arsenal. The ministry described Alexa Spatium as a high-speed unmanned aerial vehicle designed to neutralize various aerial, ground, and surface targets during combat scenarios.

Its primary mission is to counteract Russian attack drones such as Geran, Geran-4, Geran-5, and Shahed-131. The system is also capable of taking on reconnaissance drones, helicopters, and other targets.

The Alexa Spatium features a turbojet engine and boasts a high operational ceiling, long range, and the ability to maneuver at different altitudes. It can be deployed against targets specified by coordinates or in direct guidance mode. Additional attributes of the drone include its capability to carry different types of warheads, such as high-explosive fragmentation, shaped-charge, and thermobaric warheads.

The drone demonstrates exceptional maneuverability, can be launched remotely, and is equipped with advanced search and targeting systems, including television and infrared sensors.

Measuring approximately 1.5 by 1.7 meters, Alexa Spatium can be launched from a mobile catapult within a brief period. Its composite-material construction allows it to perform sharp maneuvers without losing control. The drone also possesses the ability to return to its launch site and be reused if the mission is not completed. As of August 14, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov had revealed that Ukraine was conducting tests on its first jet-powered interceptor drones, capable of exceeding 600 kilometers per hour and designed to confront Russian jet-powered Shahed drones.

Yurii Ihnat, head of communications for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, stated that Russian forces deployed five times as many jet-powered drones in July 2026 compared to the previous month.
