Ex-care home worker accused of raping intellectually disabled woman 5 times

A former assistant warden at a residential care home for intellectually disabled residents in Hong Kong, Chung Pui-kei, has been charged with five counts of raping a mentally incapacitated resident between July and August 2024. The victim, now 23 years old but with the intellectual ability of a nine-year-old child, lived at the home run by the Hong Chi Association, an NGO.

Prosecutor Human Lam Hiu-man presented the five alleged incidents, which occurred in a male staff room and X's own room. The prosecutor called upon psychiatrists and a clinical psychologist to testify about the victim's medical history and condition, revealing that she had a history of mental illness but was not psychotic and had bipolar affective disorder.

The defense questioned the psychiatrist about the possibility of hallucinations affecting the victim's perception of the defendant, but the psychiatrist clarified that hallucinations are not a side effect of the medication the victim takes. Clinical psychologist Wong Yik-tung will continue providing evidence on Monday.
