Inter set for Serie A title defence as Milan get Amorim reboot

Inter Milan are set to begin their Serie A title defence on Saturday as the favourites, having successfully defended their league and Italian Cup double just a few months earlier. The reigning champions have seen significant changes since the end of the season. Manager Cristian Chivu takes over for a second season, having reshaped the squad that he inherited from Simone Inzaghi just over a year ago.

The Romanian has focused on rejuvenating the team and adding a Premier League flavour to the squad during the summer transfer window. Josep Martinez is expected to take over from Yann Sommer in goal, while veterans Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian and Stefan de Vrij have moved on. The likes of Died Spence, who impressed for England at the 2026 World Cup, and Manchester City centre-back John Stones have joined the squad.

AC Milan will be looking to unseat Inter, having splashed out a club record €74 million on Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. Inter are also targeting Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones to maintain a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
