Why Madrid did not sign Rodri — Mourinho

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Rodri ultimately fell through, and coach José Mourinho has now shed light on the reason behind the deal’s collapse. Despite making a strong offer to convince the Spanish international, Rodri’s own hesitation played a decisive role in the negotiations falling through. The Portuguese manager himself confirmed that Madrid presented a "very good offer" to Rodri during conversations about the move.

Mourinho stated, “I spoke to him a couple of times and Real Madrid made him a very good offer.” However, it was Rodri’s own doubts that created additional uncertainty for both parties. Mourinho explained, “Rodri had doubts, he hesitated and Rodri’s doubts created doubts for me.” While acknowledging Rodri’s extraordinary talent and respectful demeanor, Mourinho ultimately decided that the move was not in the best interests of both Madrid and the player.

The failed pursuit saw Rodri eventually join Barcelona, while Brighton’s Azeez race and Barca’s controversial transfer of Ikorodu City’s Omotayo drew attention in the Premier League.
