Unleashed 60kg dog in Hong Kong mauls poodle, bichon frise to death (video)

On Monday afternoon, August 17, near Yoho Mall in Yuen Long, Hong Kong, a large dog with a weight of approximately 60kg and a length of 1.5 meters went on a rampage, fatally attacking two small dogs. The incident was reported via social media around 3 pm. Footage from the event shows the unleashed dog, later identified and captured by authorities, freely roaming the area.

The first victim was a 5kg brown miniature poodle, which was on a walk with its 58-year-old owner. The poodle was attacked and later taken to a veterinary clinic, where it tragically died from its injuries. About 20 minutes later, a four-year-old bichon frise, weighing just 4kg, was also attacked in the same vicinity. Onlookers, including a four-year-old child, recorded the attack, showing the small white dog struggling as the larger dog bit it, while others surrounded the aggressive canine.

The police were alerted and managed to control the situation by using shields and display boards to corral the large dog. AFCD staff then took charge and brought the incident to a halt. Both dogs that were attacked were confirmed dead, and the case was classified as a dog-bite incident for further investigation by the AFCD. The authorities have since warned that pet owners with dogs weighing over 20kg are required to keep them on a leash no longer than 2 meters in public spaces.

The owner of the large dog involved in the attack has been arrested, and the dog has been taken to an AFCD animal management center for further examination and potential prosecution.
