Lindsey Barnett Lakewood murder: Who is Patrick 'Ted' Barnett? Husband arrested after making postpartum depression claim

Lindsey Barnett, a 37-year-old art teacher from Lakewood, Colorado, was discovered dead on Thursday morning. Her husband, Patrick Theodore Barnett, or Ted, has been arrested for murder. Initially, Ted claimed that Lindsey was suffering from postpartum depression, a condition often experienced by women after childbirth. This claim brought attention to the issue of postpartum depression and psychosis, as seen in a similar case in Massachusetts where a woman is accused of killing her three children.

The ex-FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer noted that postpartum depression or psychosis is often misused to explain murder-suicides, as Lindsey Barnett was found with her throat slit in her shower. Her husband stated she had postpartum depression and had killed herself. However, Lindsey's parents said their relationship was troubled, with Patrick being described as verbally abusive and controlling.

Lindsey had never expressed suicidal thoughts or attempted suicide. Patrick initially claimed there was no infidelity by either of them. He later admitted to having an extramarital relationship and said Lindsey was fine with it, but the two hadn't told anyone else. Patrick also had injuries consistent with defensive wounds, and dried blood was found on him despite claiming he only checked for her pulse.

Lindsey had unexplained bruises on her body and clean clothes, with most of her body not showing signs of blood. Patrick is currently in Jefferson County Detention Center facing a first-degree murder charge.
