25 days until Saints opener: Every player to wear the No. 25 jersey

Just 25 days remain until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2026 season against the Detroit Lions on September 13. Reserve cornerback Rezjohn Wright currently dons No. 25 during training camp and is vying to secure a spot in the cornerbacks depth chart. Wright joins a long list of Saints players who have worn jersey number 25.

Jerry Simmons made history as the franchise's inaugural wearer in 1967, although he appeared in only two games. Al Dodd followed in 1969, playing for three seasons and catching 80 passes for 1,382 yards. Jerry Moore became the first defensive player to wear No. 25 in 1973, but only played for two years. It wasn't until six players over a 15-year period that a draft pick donned the jersey.

Johnnie Poe, selected in the sixth round of the 1981 draft, played 100 games for the Saints and recorded 17 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Brad Muster, a disappointment as a first-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 1988, switched from wearing No. 22 to No. 25 in 1994 before retiring. Alex Molden, a Round 1 draft choice in 1996, wore No. 25 for five seasons, accumulating 8 interceptions, 15 passes broken up, 5 fumbles recovered, and 6 sacks.

McAfee, a Round 6 pick in 1991, had a Hall of Fame career as a special teams contributor and was inducted in 2022. Reggie Bush, the second overall pick by the Saints in 2006, played five seasons and racked up 2,090 yards rushing and 2,142 yards receiving while scoring 29 touchdowns. Rafael Bush, a free-agent acquisition in 2012, played 54 games and was a solid backup defensive back and special teams contributor.

Four players since Rafael Bush have switched jersey numbers, but Rezjohn Wright now has his opportunity to wear No. 25 for the Saints.
