Mourinho told Vinicius Jr 'not worth' leaving Real

Jose Mourinho told Vinicius Jr. that it was not worth leaving Real Madrid. The 26-year-old Brazilian had entered the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu, meaning he could have left for free next summer. Premier League champions Arsenal were alerted to the possibility of signing Vinicius Jr., but he eventually committed his future to Real by signing a six-year contract earlier this month.

Mourinho, who confirmed his return to Real for a second stint in charge in June, spoke of his part in keeping the Brazilian in the Spanish capital. He said, "Vinicius has fallen in love with Real Madrid. The only thing I told him was: Vini, where do you want to go? You've only been in Brazil and you only know Real Madrid. You only understand Real Madrid when you leave.

When you leave that's when you realise what Real Madrid is. Don't leave. It's not worth it." Mourinho believes Vinicius' experience with the group and their development has given him important feelings. Mourinho also addressed the racial abuse incident involving Vinicius Jr. and Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni, stating that he will stand by his player.
