SC orders moving jailed ex-PM Imran Khan to Shifa Hospital for medical checkup

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated at Adiala jail, to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination. This decision was made following Imran's petition requesting hospitalization. The three-member bench, consisting of Justices Shahid Wahid, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Ishtiaq Ibrahim, also mandated weekly family visits for Khan.

A medical board, including Khan's personal physician and his sister Dr. Uzma Khan, will oversee his healthcare. The court prohibited Imran's lawyers and family from divulging his medical reports to the media or using them for political gain. This ruling followed a report from the Adiala jail superintendent stating that adequate healthcare was being provided to Khan, with medical staff visiting him three times daily to monitor his vital signs.

However, the report indicated that Dr. Akhtar Ali Bandeshah had previously noted concerns about Khan's uncontrolled blood pressure, palpitations, headaches, and restlessness. Khan and his team have been advocating for more frequent family interactions and treatment options like CT coronary angiography to address his health issues, which include an eye condition (right central retinal vein occlusion) and potential complications due to stress.
