SC orders moving jailed ex-PM Imran Khan to Shifa Hospital for medical checkup

The Supreme Court has ordered the relocation of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination, according to a ruling issued on Tuesday. A three-judge bench, consisting of Justice Shahid Wahid, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, made the decision in response to Imran Khan's petition seeking hospitalization.

The court further emphasized the need to facilitate weekly meetings between Imran Khan and his family members. In addition, the court mandated the establishment of a medical board comprising Imran Khan's personal physician and his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, to oversee his healthcare. Lawyers and Imran Khan's family members were explicitly instructed not to disclose his medical reports to the media or exploit the situation politically.

The ruling followed a report submitted by the superintendent of Adiala jail, where Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023, to the Supreme Court regarding the ex-premier's health status.
