Pakistan top court orders ex-PM Imran Khan be moved to hospital from jail, his party says

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered former Prime Minister Imran Khan to be transferred from prison to a hospital, according to his political party PTI. The decision comes after repeated requests from Khan's family and party members concerned about his health. Khan's sons had previously expressed worries about his declining health, particularly his reduced vision in his right eye while incarcerated.

The 73-year-old has been in prison since August 2023, after being convicted in multiple cases. Khan maintains that the legal proceedings against him were politically motivated following his removal from power in 2022. A PTI spokesperson emphasized the importance of the court's order, stating that it should have occurred sooner to prevent Khan's health from deteriorating further.

The court has mandated that Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours and stay there until September 16. PTI spokesperson Naeem Haider Panjutha confirmed the directive. Since his ousting from power, Khan has faced a series of legal cases, including allegations related to state gifts and his marriage. While some convictions have been overturned, appeals in other cases are still pending, and he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
