Manitoba has hired 4,700 health-care workers since 2023: government

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced that his government has employed over 4,700 health-care workers across the province since assuming office in 2023. Among these new hires are approximately 2,100 health-care aides, 370 physicians, and 1,464 nurses. Kinew emphasized the ongoing need to address shortages within the health system and pledged to continue recruiting and retaining staff to enhance access to care.

The Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals highlighted the province's requirement to devise a comprehensive plan for all specialized professions, particularly noting a shortage of technologists responsible for diagnostic tests, which contributes to long wait times.
