Maharashtra Government Puts BHMS-CCMP Doctor Registration On Hold Pending Court Decision On Modern Medicine Practice

The Maharashtra government has temporarily halted the registration of BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathy) doctors who have completed the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) for limited practice of modern medicine (allopathy). This decision came after opposition from various doctors' bodies, including Central Medical Advisory Research and Development (Central MARD) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), who raised concerns over medical education standards, professional boundaries, and patient safety.

Central MARD president Dr Atharva Shinde stated that the protest aimed at safeguarding medical education quality, patient safety, and professional standards in modern medicine. The government's directive effectively puts the CCMP registration on hold until a court verdict is delivered and the government finalizes its policy. Dr Bahubali Shah, Administrator of the Maharashtra Council of Homoeopathy, expressed that the registration process cannot be stopped based on the latest letter and a circular issued on August 3, 2026.

Meanwhile, numerous AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) doctors staged a protest at Azad Maidan, demanding the immediate registration of eligible BHMS-CCMP doctors with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). The protest called for the reopening of the registration process for all eligible candidates and an inquiry into the functioning of the MMC.
