Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu–Wa Road to be completed by 2028 – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged swift payment to contractors for the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu–Wa road project to ensure its completion by 2028. During a visit to inspect ongoing works as part of his two-day tour of the Upper East Region, the President assured contractors of timely payments, a commitment under the government's Big Push infrastructure programme.

The road, crucial for connecting the Upper East and Upper West Regions, is currently divided into lots and awarded to different contractors, with MyTurn Construction currently working on the section inspected by Mahama. The President highlighted that work on the project, which began in 2016, had stalled but has since resumed under the Big Push programme, which provides annual budgetary allocations for critical road infrastructure.

He expressed confidence in MyTurn Construction's management, particularly after the death of its founder, and urged the contractor to maintain its current pace, as timely completion could qualify them for subsequent phases of the Big Push programme. The President also noted that engineers are satisfied with the project's progress and expressed hope for its commissioning next year.

Mahama aims to have the entire Navrongo-to-Wa stretch completed by 2028, part of the broader government objective to link all regional capitals with good roads and improve major district roads. He assured residents that roads selected under the first phase of the Big Push will be completed, and government is preparing a second phase, with a possible third, to ensure comprehensive coverage of critical roads nationwide.

By the end of the five-year Big Push programme, Mahama expects significant improvements in the country's road network and greater satisfaction among motorists and communities.
