Virginia State University shooting: Suspect found hiding in closet arrested as five injured

Five individuals were wounded in a shooting incident at Virginia State University (VSU) during the early hours of Saturday morning, with one victim suffering from critical injuries. The suspect, Camron Harris, aged 19, was found hiding in a dormitory closet and subsequently arrested on Saturday morning. He is not a VSU student, and four of the injured individuals were also not affiliated with the university, ranging in age from 17 to 23.

The university released a statement expressing concern over the incident and emphasized the prioritization of student safety. Authorities have obtained eight felony warrants against Harris, including charges of malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no additional information about the search for other suspects has been provided.

The university had previously announced that law enforcement did not believe there was an immediate threat to the campus community, and the lockdown was subsequently lifted.
