[UPDATED] Anwar: PKR to remain aligned with BN-Umno while staying loyal to PH partners

KEROH: PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim revealed today that the party intends to stay aligned with Barisan Nasional and Umno at the federal level, while concurrently remaining loyal to its fellow Pakatan Harapan partners DAP and Amanah. The decision to maintain ties with BN-Umno was made to uphold political stability and foster economic growth, Anwar emphasized.

Regardless, PKR would be loyal to its PH partners. Speaking at the 2026 PKR National Congress, Anwar stressed that the party's stance must be balanced and judicious, and vowed that its relationship with Islam would remain uncompromised. He also affirmed that Chinese and Indian Malaysians were integral members of the nation and would continue to be involved in the party's decisions.

On PKR's relationship with BN and Umno, Anwar expressed his preference for preserving the partnership for the sake of political stability and economic prosperity. However, he noted that this decision was a collective choice and informed other parties that they too must decide their course of action. Anwar affirmed that his relationship with Umno president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi remained amicable and expressed confidence that any differences between the parties could be resolved through discussion.

He also cautioned that several recent decisions by PKR's partners had taken them by surprise. Despite this, Anwar affirmed that PKR would continue to cooperate with Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, with the overarching priority being maintaining stability until the end of the term, fulfilling their responsibilities, and strengthening the country's economy.
