Russian ballistic missiles trigger fires across Kyiv

Russian forces launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv overnight on August 15-16, setting off a series of explosions and fires throughout the Ukrainian capital. At least three individuals were injured in the attack. The Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts were particularly hard hit, with fires reported in both areas. A significant fire engulfed a market near the Pochaina metro station, destroying the building entirely.

Initially, two individuals were reported injured at the market site, but the total number of injuries across Kyiv rose to three. Emergency services were working to mitigate the aftermath of the overnight assault in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts. Another structure in this district sustained minor damage but did not catch fire.

Additionally, a strike was recorded at a non-residential building in the same district, causing debris to ignite fires at two locations. Vehicles near one of the buildings also caught fire. In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out at a non-residential property, which was eventually brought under control by emergency crews.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko informed residents that the capital was under attack from ballistic missiles and advised them to stay in shelters. Ukraine's Air Force had warned earlier that Russian missiles were heading towards Kyiv from the north. Monitoring Telegram channels reported that Russian forces launched at least four missiles at the capital.

Explosions were also heard in Poltava, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih. Russia had previously attacked Kyiv overnight on August 10-11, causing a fire at warehouses in the Shevchenkivskyi district and another hit on the grounds of a children's hospital, resulting in one injury.
