At DAP congress, most delegates back staying in Anwar govt, urge faster reforms

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 — At the DAP congress, delegates overwhelmingly supported staying in the federal government until the end of the current term, urging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to implement reforms promised to Malaysians. In his speech, Perak delegate Jason Ng Thien Yeong argued that leaving the government would amount to abandoning voters and handing advantage to rival parties.

Ng acknowledged recent state election setbacks but urged the party to push harder for change. Penang delegate Daniel Gooi Zi Sen stressed the importance of political stability, pointing to disruptions caused by the Sheraton Move in 2020 and stalled projects. Sarawak delegate Soo Tien Ren warned that leaving the government would be "political suicide," urging DAP to demonstrate the promised reforms.

Kedah delegate Lim Hooi Yee also supported staying until the term's end, warning that leaving would betray the party's principles and responsibilities to the people.
