Despite dominating possession, PSG struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser making several crucial saves. Antonio's dismissal in the second half further disadvantaged PSG, who nearly equalized but ultimately had to settle for a 1-0 loss.

The match serves as a precursor to PSG's Ligue 1 title defense, which kicks off at home against Rennes a week later. Lens, who finished second in Ligue 1 last season behind PSG, had previously won the French Cup in May under Pierre Sage.
