Month left in Gujarat monsoon withdrawal, South gets 101% rainfall, Kutch 29%

As the Southwest monsoon withdraws from Gujarat in a month, the South region has seen over 100% of the seasonal average rainfall by August 16, whereas Kutch region is facing a 29% rainfall deficit compared to last year's 65%. The typical monsoon withdrawal from Gujarat is expected on September 15. The state has reported an average rainfall of 673.56 mm or 74.11% so far. On August 16, 2025, the average rainfall was 65.67%, with a nearly equal distribution across different regions.

In the South region, districts like Surat, Navsari, and Valsad have recorded above 100% rainfall. Navsari currently holds the highest with 119.83% rainfall, while Valsad and Surat follow closely with 112.97% and 104.51%, respectively. Despite no district exceeding 100% rainfall, 37 talukas in the southern region have witnessed more than 1,000 mm rainfall.

Conversely, eight districts have received less than 50% rainfall, including Devbhoomi Dwarka (6.41%), Porbandar (17.88%), Kutch (29.25%), Jamnagar (28.88%), Rajkot (46.77%), Aravalli (45.69%), Sabarkantha (46.42%), and Gir Somnath (46.33%).

To date, 84,318 people have been relocated across 19 districts, and an additional 9,822 people have been rescued from 24 districts between June 1 and August 16. Navsari, Valsad, and Surat account for 81% (68,266) of the relocated individuals and over 75% (7,412) of the rescued. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert - indicating moderate rainfall - for districts including Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad until Monday morning.

Thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad districts until Monday morning.
