Malays’ biggest threat is drugs, not other races, says Saifuddin

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who also serves as home minister, highlighted the pressing issue of drug abuse within the Malay community as the biggest threat facing them, as opposed to other races. He emphasized that the Malays and Muslims are not under threat because of other races. Instead, the Malays are facing significant challenges due to their economic status and high rates of drug usage.

According to government and National Anti-Drugs Agency data, regions like Perlis, Kedah, and Terengganu saw 1,000 drug use cases per 100,000 people. Saifuddin pointed out that the affected individuals are generally aged 15 and above, often lacking educational qualifications and employment opportunities. He stressed that if these issues are not addressed and job opportunities are not provided to young people, they will be more likely to engage in drug abuse.

Saifuddin also criticized identity politics as a zero-sum game, advocating for Malaysians to evaluate the government based on its economic performance and achievements. He advocated for a focus on economic growth and combating corruption, rather than fostering divisions among different communities.
