At DAP congress, most delegates back staying in Anwar govt, urge faster reforms

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 — At the DAP congress, most delegates have voiced their support for staying in the federal government until the end of the term, urging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to accelerate promised reforms. Several delegates argued that leaving now would amount to abandoning voters and providing political advantage to rival parties.

Perak delegate Jason Ng Thien Yeong emphasized that DAP should remain in the government once the term ends. Despite recent setbacks in state elections, Ng urged the party to push for change and reforms rather than leave the government and disappoint the people. Penang delegate Daniel Gooi Zi Sen stressed the importance of political stability, citing the disruption caused by the Sheraton Move in 2020 and the need to avoid such turmoil again.

Sarawak delegate Soo Tien Ren warned that leaving the government would be a "political suicide," urging DAP to remain in Cabinet and demonstrate concrete reforms. Kedah delegate Lim Hooi Yee also called for the party to remain in the government until the end, warning that leaving would betray the party's principles and commitments.

The party is currently voting on whether to continue or withdraw from the federal government, with the decision expected to be announced later that day.
