Health Ministry reviews progress on NDC manifesto commitments

The Ministry of Health has initiated a three-day mid-year review of the government's health sector commitments outlined in the NDC 2024 Manifesto, beginning on August 15, 2026 in Ho. This meeting, led by Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, brings together heads of agencies, institutions, and programmes under the Ministry to assess progress, address implementation challenges, and strengthen efforts to deliver key healthcare commitments across Ghana.

Key commitments under scrutiny include the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, MahamaCare, health facility modernization, NHIS expansion, and specialized nursing programmes. The review will also evaluate the advancement of new regional hospital constructions in the six recently established regions, the establishment of cataract centers, nursing trainee allowance formalization, health professional recruitment, and the completion of postponed health projects.

Agencies and programmes are expected to present updates on their respective areas, detailing successes, obstacles, and necessary measures to expedite implementation. Participants will also receive training in Public Financial Management to enhance resource efficiency and promote good governance within the health sector. The review's opening ceremony saw Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh highlight sector achievements and commend agency efforts, while urging strict adherence to the Public Financial Management Act to ensure prudent and efficient resource management.

The Ministry remains committed to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), aiming to make healthcare services accessible, affordable, and responsive to all Ghanaians' needs.
