Family of elderly man, 73, thrown to ground at Roxy Square coffee shop lodges police report

On August 15, a 73-year-old man named Yeo was thrown to the ground at the Roxy Square coffee shop after patting a young girl's head without permission. Yeo, who has been selling wanton noodles at the coffee shop for over 40 years, recounted the incident to Shin Min Daily News. He was walking by one of the tables when he saw the two to three-year-old girl and decided to gently pat her head.

The girl's father had left the table, but returned after noticing Yeo's interaction. He became agitated and asked Yeo why he did what he did. Despite attempts to explain himself, the girl's father refused to accept his apology and pulled Yeo by his arm, throwing him onto the ground. Yeo struck a table on the way down, causing swelling on his head.

Yeo's son, who was inside the wanton noodle stall at the time, rushed out after hearing the commotion. He angrily questioned the man about his actions and expressed concern about the elder Yeo's well-being, as Yeo had insisted he was alright and showed no signs of injury. The girl's father later apologised and offered to buy Yeo a drink, but the elder Yeo declined.

The elder Yeo's family discovered the severity of the incident after reviewing CCTV footage. They decided to share the story online in hopes of finding the girl's father to address the matter appropriately. The elder Yeo's older son-in-law expressed disappointment in Yeo's violent response, stating that he could have handled the situation better by reasoning with the father or contacting the police. The police have now lodged a report and investigations are ongoing.
