Explosions heard in Kyiv after ballistic missile warning

Explosions were heard in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sunday morning as the city received warnings of incoming ballistic missiles from Russia, according to AFP reporters. The military administration in the capital issued an air raid alert, advising citizens to seek shelter. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported explosions in the city, claiming it was under a ballistic missile attack.

A fire subsequently broke out in a non-residential building in Kyiv’s Obolonsky district, though authorities did not provide casualty information. On the other side of the conflict, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that Russian forces shot down approximately 28 drones approaching the Russian capital. Both Russia and Ukraine have engaged in ongoing military actions; while Ukraine has targeted Russian oil refineries and military infrastructure, Moscow continues to advance in the east and has launched attacks on Ukrainian cities, sometimes utilizing North Korean ballistic missiles according to Ukrainian officials.
