Explosions heard in Kyiv after ballistic missile warning

Early this morning, explosions were heard in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, as authorities issued a warning of incoming ballistic missiles. Russia, known for its use of long-range missiles in its conflict with Ukraine, has recently seen the capital respond with drone strikes deep within Russian territory. The military administration of Kyiv announced an air raid alert on the Telegram messaging app at around 2:00 am local time, advising citizens to seek shelter. One person was reportedly injured in the incident.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the capital, claiming it was under a ballistic missile attack. He also mentioned falling debris igniting a fire in a non-residential part of a northern suburb. Several cars were on fire, and another blaze broke out in an area just south of the city center, according to Klitschko's Telegram post. Unofficial Telegram channels shared images of what they described as market stalls ablaze in the suburb.

In a separate development, Russia faced another drone swarm approaching its capital, Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on the state-backed MAX platform that Russian forces successfully downed approximately 28 drones attempting to reach Moscow. Ukraine has been striking Russian oil refineries and military infrastructure, while Moscow continues its offensive in the east and has launched devastating attacks on cities like Kyiv, sometimes employing North Korean ballistic missiles, as per Ukrainian officials.
