Bus crash in Hungary kills at least 12

At least 12 people lost their lives after a Polish coach overturned and crashed into a ditch on the M3 motorway in eastern Hungary, according to police reports. The collision occurred around 140 kilometers east of Budapest, near the village of Mezokeresztes. Emergency services responded to the scene and treated 47 people, ten of whom suffered serious injuries.

The driver, who fell asleep at the wheel during the overnight trip, was arrested following the incident. Police believe the bus was carrying a group of 59 pilgrims from Poland, who had been returning from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The group included two drivers. Fourteen ambulances were dispatched to assist with the rescue efforts, as several passengers were trapped under the overturned vehicle.

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar expressed his condolences to the victims' families on social media, thanking emergency and rescue services for their swift response. Polish President Karol Nawrocki also expressed his shock and sorrow over the tragedy.
