Orengo condemns groups attacking Linda Mwananchi convoy in Homa Bay

Siaya Governor James Orengo has expressed disapproval of a group in Homa Bay that attacked and tried to disrupt Linda Mwananchi's convoy as they journeyed to county rallies on Sunday, August 16, 2026. During a stopover on the way to Homa Bay, Orengo observed a general positive reception, with locals chanting "Wantam" along the route.

He remarked, "The people are with us. Every place we’ve passed, since we entered Homa Bay, it is one term." However, Orengo strongly condemned the group targeting the convoy, stating that such actions did not reflect the Kenya he envisioned: "But these goons who have been organized to hit at our cars, interfere with our convoy this is not Kenya.

This is not the Kenya we want." He further criticized the police for their perceived lack of control over the situation, alleging the officers had abdicated their authority to the assailants in places like Nyandhiwa. Despite these incidents, Orengo affirmed that the leaders would continue with their planned rallies in Sindo and Homa Bay Town.

This statement arose following police deployment of tear gas to disperse rowdy individuals attempting to block the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Ndhiwa. The security forces accompanied the convoy through Homa Bay amidst rising political tensions prior to the rallies. Earlier that day, a similar disturbance occurred at Oyugis Junction, where tires were set ablaze, heightening concerns about potential disruptions.

The convoy was scheduled to visit Nyandiwa, Sindo, and Homa Bay Town, with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna set to lead the mobilization. Other leaders present included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and several regional representatives. The tour of Homa Bay follows Linda Mwananchi's recent rallies across Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Kakamega, and Busia.

The movement aims to capitalize on its Western Kenya momentum as it extends its political outreach into Nyanza, an area historically supportive of the ODM. Orengo emphasized that the leaders would persist with their agenda, undeterred by the intimidation attempts: "The rallies will not be derailed by intimidation."
