At DAP congress, Sangeet urges rethink of ties with Anwar, says PM has divided coalition, empowered Umno

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 — At the DAP congress, Legal Bureau Chief Sangeet Kaur Deo urged the Central Executive Committee to reconsider the party's ties with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking ahead of a vote on DAP's future in the federal government, Sangeet emphasized the success of the coalition in uniting partners, stating, "He has divided us, pitted one against the other and empowered Umno."

She called for DAP to use its remaining time in power to rebuild trust, regain its voice, and address issues like racial divisions and corruption. Sangeet lamented the party's silence on these matters, warning that it had eroded public confidence. She highlighted growing racial tensions and corruption scandals during DAP's tenure, questioning whether the party had done enough to combat corruption.

Allegations of a "corporate mafia" and the involvement of former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki were cited. Sangeet also expressed doubts about DAP's ability to cooperate with coalition partners, particularly Umno, which she claimed continued to attack the party despite being part of the government. She urged DAP to use the next 18 months in government to speak out on issues and rebuild its credibility.
