Ambil inspirasi Kit Siang, DAP kekal parti berbilang kaum, kata Loke

DAP Party Chairman Loke Siew Fook emphasized the party's commitment to retaining its multiracial ideals to fight for all Malaysians, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Speaking at a special party congress, Loke drew inspiration from veteran party founder Lim Kit Siang's determination five decades ago, when he refused to bow to former MCA President Tan Siew Sin's offer to join his party and instead formed DAP together with leaders from Malay, Indian, and other backgrounds.

This decision, made in the early 1970s, was based on the principle that DAP is not a party solely for the Chinese community, but a united front formed by leaders and members from various ethnic backgrounds. As DAP turns 60 in 2026, Loke reiterated his firm belief that the party will continue to be multiracial for the Malaysian people.

He also stated that all DAP members and leaders must uphold the party's original idealism - to champion justice, freedom, and democracy for everyone, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Loke acknowledged the ongoing challenge of race-based discrimination that DAP has faced for the past 60 years, and stated that unlike in the past, the party has never taken any ethnic approach to undermine any particular group.

The ultimate objective of DAP in today's federal government is to break down the walls of ethnic politics and ensure every Malaysian has equal opportunities to succeed in life.
