DAP perlu kekal dalam kerajaan agar agenda reformasi terlaksana, kata Syahredzan

DAP must remain within the government to ensure the nation's administration remains consistent on the foundation of reform, according to DAP Deputy Vice President Syahredzan Johan. Johan emphasized that withdrawing DAP from the Cabinet would stifle the government reform agenda and aid Pakatan Harapan (PH) in fulfilling its election manifesto.

"The most important reason DAP must remain (in the government) is to ensure this government does not stray from its reform foundation," he stated via a Facebook post. "DAP is the heart of this administration. We provide the voice to the Madani government. We are the ones who ensure this administration always stays on the right path."

Johan, who is also a Member of Parliament for Bangi, added that reform agenda is not just rhetoric or manifesto pledges for DAP, but rather a core foundation of the party's struggle for decades as the opposition. He noted several important reforms that have already been realized, including the Parliamentary Service Act, the amendment of the Audit Act, the establishment of the Media Malaysia Council, and the Protection of the Public and Freedom of Expression Act.

Johan also cited reforms at the parliamentary level, such as the Prime Minister's Question Time, expansion of the powers of the special joint session of Parliament, and the space for major reports like those from the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) and the Auditor General. Furthermore, several other bills for reform were announced this year, including a bill on the term limits of the prime minister, the constitutional separation of the Attorney General's role from the prosecutor, and the Freedom of Information Act.

Johan said DAP also wants to advocate for other reform agendas, including the bill for ensuring a fair distribution of funds to all Members of Parliament, an issue the party has been fighting for for decades. "DAP needs to be in the administration to ensure this bill can be successfully realized. If we are out, we will lose the added advantage needed to ensure political commitment to realize this reform," he said.

On Sunday, over 4,000 DAP representatives will make a decision whether the party should withdraw or remain in the government until the end of the parliamentary term. As of now, Perak DAP has voiced support for staying in the unity government to allow the coalition to fulfill its election promises.
