Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 returns to Munich after takeoff incident

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 en route to Hanoi made an unscheduled return to Munich Airport on Saturday, following technical difficulties that emerged shortly after its takeoff, according to the airline and Munich Airport authorities. The aircraft reportedly exceeded its runway length during the initial ascent, prompting the jet to circle for over two hours in order to burn fuel, as reported by the flight-tracking website Flightradar24.

ABC News broadcasted footage of the plane taking off, emitting a substantial plume of dust in its wake.

Following a safe landing, Vietnam Airlines disclosed that the aircraft was unable to taxi off the north runway independently upon arrival, leading to its grounding. This situation necessitated the temporary closure of the north runway and the rerouting of air traffic through the secondary south runway, as outlined by Munich Airport in an official statement.

The airline emphasized that the flight crew had adhered to all mandated protocols and that the passengers and crew members remained unharmed, as confirmed by Vietnam Airlines.

Subsequently, Vietnam Airlines initiated coordination with pertinent authorities and entities to conduct an inspection of the aircraft. The company pledged to furnish additional updates subsequent to the completion of the inspection and the availability of specific operational plans.
