PS Omollo assures Kenyans of peaceful polls, urges political responsibility

As Kenya prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle, the government has urged political leaders and stakeholders to uphold national unity and conduct their campaigns responsibly. During an education support event in Kajiado Central, Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo assured Kenyans that the elections will be peaceful, allowing citizens to freely choose their leaders without coercion or intimidation.

Dr. Omollo encouraged young people to identify first and foremost as Kenyans, transcending ethnic, religious, and regional identities. He emphasized the importance of education as the greatest equalizer, stating that the government has allocated over Sh780 billion in the current budget and recruited more than 100,000 teachers to improve access to quality education.

The government is also working to strengthen access to university and tertiary education through proposed legislation. Dr. Omollo reported that in Kajiado County, 90% of learners successfully transitioned to junior or senior school, and the Ministry has operationalized additional administrative units to bring government services closer to citizens.

He welcomed the removal of additional vetting requirements for obtaining national identity cards, particularly for residents of border counties like Kajiado. Dr. Omollo urged eligible residents to visit local offices to obtain identity documents and register as voters. Ensuring accurate registration and population records is crucial for the fair allocation of development resources.

Regarding healthcare, approximately 65% of Kajiado residents have registered with the Social Health Authority, and Dr. Omollo encouraged those yet to enrol to do so for better access to healthcare services. He praised the community for their support of the education initiative and pledged ongoing government support to provide equal educational opportunities to children in Kajiado Central.
