Govt assures Kenyans of peaceful elections, urges leaders to be responsible

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has assured Kenyans that the upcoming elections will be free and fair, without coercion or intimidation. Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, addressed an education support event in Kajiado Central, urging young people to identify first as Kenyans, regardless of their ethnic, religious, or regional backgrounds.

"You may come from Kajiado, but you are Kenyans," he emphasized. He called on citizens to participate in national conversations about future priorities in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and other areas of development. Education is the government's top priority, with over Ksh 780 billion allocated in the current budget, more than 100,000 teachers recruited, and approximately 28,000 classrooms under construction.

In Kajiado County, 90% of learners successfully transitioned to higher education levels. The government is collaborating with education officials, chiefs, village elders, teachers, and parents to achieve a 100% transition rate and ensure no child is left out of education. Dr. Omollo highlighted that the Ministry has established additional administrative units to bring government services closer to citizens, including the removal of additional vetting requirements for obtaining national identity cards in border counties like Kajiado.

Eligible residents are encouraged to obtain identity documents and register as voters at chiefs', assistant chiefs', and registration offices.

Healthcare access is also a focus, with around 65% of Kajiado residents registered with the Social Health Authority. Dr. Omollo urged those not yet enrolled to do so to improve access to healthcare services. He praised the support of the community, including parents, teachers, and local leaders, for the education initiative and pledged continued government support to ensure all Kenyans have equal access to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and government services, regardless of their background.
