Charles Oakley's assault case against Madison Square Garden dismissed

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by former NBA player Charles Oakley against Madison Square Garden (MSG), according to court documents. The lawsuit alleged that Oakley was assaulted by MSG security guards during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on February 8, 2017. However, Judge Richard J. Sullivan ruled that Oakley had not provided sufficient evidence to support his claim.

In his ruling, Sullivan stated that Oakley's objections had been overruled based on six factors, including the lack of evidence to support the assault allegation. MSG expressed disappointment with the court's decision and stated that they believed there were conflicting accounts of the incident, which should be decided by a jury.

The former player's attorney, Douglas Wigdor, countered that ample evidence, including videos and unanimous witness testimony, proved Oakley's reasonable opportunity to leave the Garden and that he did not resort to physical violence. MSG filed a statement accusing Oakley and his legal team of filing frivolous claims and pledged to pursue legal action against them for years of abuse of the judicial system.
