Multiple people shot at Virginia State University

Early Saturday morning, a shooting incident at Virginia State University prompted a campus lockdown. Five individuals were shot, with one of the victims now in critical condition and the others sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Campus police and Chesterfield County police are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff's Office.

The university confirmed multiple suspects were involved and advised the campus community to avoid the area and follow law enforcement instructions. Virginia State University, a historically Black institution, is located in Ettrick, Virginia, and had about 5,700 students at the time of the incident. The attack occurred just before the academic year began, with residence halls opening a week prior and classes scheduled to start on Monday.
