Operators are increasing the price of football on television by up to 5% ahead of LaLiga's start

LaLiga EA Sports begins on Saturday, leading to a general increase in the costs of televising football in Spain for the 2026/2027 season. Television packages granting access to all LaLiga EA Sports, LaLiga Hypermotion and European competitions witness a rise of up to 5% in official entry fees, compared to the previous season. The average monthly minimum subscription fee rises by two euros, placing full access without promotions at €109 per month from Orange and €117 monthly on Movistar.

Operators implement various promotions and restructuring of their official catalog prices to attract new subscribers. Movistar combines price hikes with temporary discounts during the first year of contract. Orange expands its converged catalogue structure and introduces mandatory commitment clauses. Meanwhile, independent platform DAZN adjusts its annual subscription rates.

According to Roams data comparison service, Movistar's football TV costs have increased by 31.7% and Orange's by 74.8% between the 2016/2017 and 2026/2027 seasons. Ten years ago, full football access via Telefónica's platform cost €79.90 monthly, while French company Orange charged €58.90 per month. A catalog analysis reveals price hikes in all 16 audiovisual combinations comprising Movistar's sports-based offering.

The operator's average annual cost for the 2026/2027 course stands at €1,475, up from €1,413.75 in the 2025/2026 period—equivalent to a 4.3% increase or an extra €61 annually per client. Movistar applies different adjustments depending on the connectivity and mobile lines subscribed. Options linked to the Base tariff see yearly increases between €5.5 and €15.

In contrast, packages tied to Unlimited x4 lines experience rises ranging from €48 to €208 per year. The company maintains block-based consumption (LaLiga or Champions League) and lacks commitment clauses. For the start of the season, Movistar offers temporary discounts on its catalog tariffs. The company provides a rebate on its LaLiga package, reducing the monthly fee to €96 for the first 12 months, down from the official €103 per month.

Orange's main entry tariff for the entire football package is €109 per month. This configuration includes 600 Mbps fiber-optic, a mobile line with unlimited data, Orange TV, the choice of a streaming service among Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ or HBO Max, and the complete football package. Orange also offers options for higher bandwidth and additional lines.

A 1 Gbps fiber and two mobile lines cost €129 monthly, while 1 Gbps with four mobile lines costs €149 per month. The line-excluding 1 Gbps tariff remains at €81 monthly. Orange has expanded its football catalog structure from 13 to 21 tariffs. The weighted average cost of its catalog is set at €1,607 annually for the 2026/2027 course, down from €1,618 in the previous year due to the addition of seven lower-priced options.

Of the 13 tariffs coinciding with the previous season, nine increased in price, three decreased, and one remained unchanged. Orange's nine price hikes belong to the MasOrange group. The company charges between €108 and €216 annually for two simultaneous OTT platforms (over-the-top) services, eliminating the no-commitment policy introduced during the 2025/2026 season.

In the independent streaming platform market, DAZN broadcasts 175 LaLiga Primera División matches (five per day for 35 days), plus the league final, LaLiga Hypermotion, and international competitions like the Premier League or Serie A. The platform charges €29.99 monthly for a no-commitment plan, offering a promotional annual subscription of €14.99 per month until September 20, or a €164.99 annual Plan Fútbol (18.7% discount) and a €285.99 annual Plan Premium (includes F1, MotoGP, and basketball).
