Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon kill at least 11

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals, according to Lebanon's health ministry. The deadliest escalation since a truce between Israel and Hezbollah took effect in June, seven people were killed when an Israeli warplane bombed a residence near the Ansar village, while four others perished in a separate strike on Deir al-Zahrani. Twenty-nine people were injured in the attacks, as reported by Lebanese authorities.

The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted Hezbollah's infrastructure, following an earlier Hezbollah attack that wounded three Israeli soldiers. The strikes also led to accusations that Hezbollah was utilizing civilians as human shields. Israeli officials reported killing a Hezbollah commander in the Ansar strike.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam denounced the strikes, stating they jeopardized the country's stability and undermined ongoing peace negotiations. The violence complicates a U.S.-mediated arrangement from June, which tied Israel's phased withdrawal from southern Lebanon to Hezbollah's disarmament.
